Gordon Supports Bill to Bolster Commitment to Vulnerable Children and Families During COVID-19 State of Emergency

 

(7/9/2020) – Representative Ken Gordon (D-Bedford) joined his House colleagues to pass a bill that strengthens the laws that ensure the safety and well-being of the Commonwealth’s youngest and most at-risk residents. The legislation strengthens the Department of Children and Families (DCF) policies and operations, develops a tool to retain and recruit foster families, holds DCF accountable for timely, accurate and relevant reports, and clarifies communication by the Child Advocate to the Legislature and state officeholders. I was crafted to address the needs of vulnerable children and families that have been amplified by the COVID-19 public health crisis and further illuminated through the lens of racial equity.

 (7/7/2020) – Representative Ken Gordon (D-Bedford) and Senator Cindy Friedman (D-Arlington) joined their colleagues in the Massachusetts Legislature last week to pass a bill that expands voter access and ensures voters have safe voting options for all remaining 2020 elections, including the September 1, 2020 state primary and November 3, 2020 general election, in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. BOSTON – Representative Ken Gordon (D – Bedford) and his House colleagues passed a bill on Thursday to significantly expand mail-in and in-person early voting options for the upcoming September and November elections in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic. The legislation was passed in near unanimous fashion one day after the House expanded opportunities for restaurants to provide outdoor seating, offer sealed cocktails to go, and capped the fees delivery services can charge for their services.

BOSTON- Representative Ken Gordon joined his colleagues in the House on Wednesday to pass legislation authorizing up to $1.7 billion in spending for the improvement of information technology equipment and related projects in Massachusetts. The bill authorizes significant investment in numerous areas including schools, libraries, and public safety. The total number of positive cases climbed to 10,402 today with 1,436 new cases reported. An additional 38 people perished from the virus brought the toll to 192. In total, 62,962 tests have been conducted in Massachusetts.

As the number of Massachusetts residents testing positive for the COVID-19 virus continues to grow, Representative Ken Gordon (D-Bedford) provided further updates to his district. There were 868 new residents testing positive for the virus in Massachusetts on March 31, the date of this writing, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 6,620. So far, 89 people in the Commonwealth have died from the disease, 33 new fatalities reported today. The vast majority of those who succumbed were elderly or had preexisting health conditions. So far 46,935 patients have been tested.
