Burlington Lands $3.5 Million State Grant for MWRA Project

Burlington will receive state funds to help the project of shutting down the Vine Brook Water Treatment plant and connecting to the state water source.

The Town of Burlington will receive $3.5 million for water system improvements as part of the Commonwealth’s 2020 MassWorks Infrastructure Grant Program, announced Friday by Governor Charlie Baker and the Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development, a release from Economic Development Director Melisa Tintocalis states. The grant will enable new housing and life sciences development, as well as create new employment opportunities in the area.

A new bill supported by Burlington’s representatives in the State House will increase unemployment benefits for those who need it most.

According to a joint release from their offices, Representative Ken Gordon and Senator Cindy Friedman joined their colleagues in the Massachusetts Legislature on Monday, October 26 to pass An Act relative to additional unemployment benefits for the neediest recipients currently excluded from the Lost Wages Assistance program, which enhances unemployment benefits for certain Massachusetts workers by as much as $1,800 each.
