State budget includes funds for Burlington restaurant workers shuttle

Burlington has restaurants and those restaurants have jobs. Lowell has people who need jobs. Bringing those two groups together is the spark behind an initiative supported by state legislators, business leaders, and local towns.

The fiscal year 2020 state budget, which recently passed the House and Senate, contained $125,000 earmarked for a Lowell-to-Burlington shuttle service which will transport potential restaurant workers from their homes in Lowell to Burlington and back home again.

Mass House approves $1.3 Billion for community climate resiliency projects

The Massachusetts House of Representatives is taking aim at climate change with the support of Burlington’s representative.

“As climate change becomes a larger concern at the local level, State Representative Ken Gordon (D-Bedford), joined his colleagues to fight the ongoing, negative effects of global warming,” a release from his office states.

What the State Budget has for Burlington

The long-awaited state budget has been approved by both legislative chambers and Burlington’s representatives in the State House are highlighting funds that will benefit the town.

“Representative Ken Gordon (D-Bedford) and Senator Cindy Friedman (D-Arlington) recently joined their colleagues in passing a Fiscal Year 2020 (FY20) conference committee budget, making investments in education, healthcare, mental health and substance use disorder services, housing, and local aid,” a joint release from their offices reads. “This $43.1 billion budget includes several key investments to support programs and services to benefit the Town of Burlington.

Rep. Gordon and Sen. Barrett join Legislature to pass balanced budget; secure funding for Bedford’s Hanscom students

Representative Ken Gordon (D-Bedford) and Senator Michael Barrett (D-Lexington) joined their colleagues in the Legislature to send to the governor the legislative version of the Fiscal Year 2020 (FY20) budget, which includes critical local aid along with Chapter 70 Education funding increases for the town of Bedford, as well as $517,000 for the education of the children of military families who live at Hanscom Air Force Base.

Burlington High School to include Innovation Pathway Program next year

Burlington High School was one of four schools in the state chosen to receive a state designation for a program designed to connect students with organizations in their field of interest and give them an opportunity to earn college credits.

Burlington, Agawam, Atlantis Charter School in Fall River and Brockton high schools will launch new Innovation Pathway programs this fall to give students skills and experience in particular local industries through college courses and internships after recently receiving official designation status from the Departments of Elementary and Secondary Education and Higher Education, the Governor Baker, and Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito announced this week.
