Rep. Gordon and Sen. Barrett join Legislature to pass balanced budget; secure funding for Bedford’s Hanscom students

Representative Ken Gordon (D-Bedford) and Senator Michael Barrett (D-Lexington) joined their colleagues in the Legislature to send to the governor the legislative version of the Fiscal Year 2020 (FY20) budget, which includes critical local aid along with Chapter 70 Education funding increases for the town of Bedford, as well as $517,000 for the education of the children of military families who live at Hanscom Air Force Base.

Burlington High School to include Innovation Pathway Program next year

Burlington High School was one of four schools in the state chosen to receive a state designation for a program designed to connect students with organizations in their field of interest and give them an opportunity to earn college credits.

Burlington, Agawam, Atlantis Charter School in Fall River and Brockton high schools will launch new Innovation Pathway programs this fall to give students skills and experience in particular local industries through college courses and internships after recently receiving official designation status from the Departments of Elementary and Secondary Education and Higher Education, the Governor Baker, and Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito announced this week.

BNEWS In Depth: Representative Gordon speaks on The ROE Act and abortion rights in Massachusetts

This act would re-affirm the rights laid out in Roe V. Wade and expand access to abortion by eliminating the need for parental consent for minors and allowing abortions after 24-weeks in certain circumstances.

Rep. Ken Gordon advocates keep facts in science curriculum

In an era when otherwise trusted science has been repeatedly questioned at the national level, Representative Ken Gordon (D-Bedford) advocated before the Joint Committee on Education for a bill he filed that will ensure scientifically accepted standards for Massachusetts students.

He was joined by Bedford resident and longtime science writer Alan MacRobert who spoke in support of the representative’s bill H. 471, “An Act Relative to Science Curriculum Standards”, which was co-authored with Bedford science professor Abby Hafer, who is also MacRobert’s wife.

Rep. Gordon congratulates Marshall Simonds Middle School students for National History Day achievements

In the wake of four middle schooler’s success during National History Day in Washington, D.C., state Rep. Ken Gordon (D-Bedford) reached out to honor these Marshal Simonds Middle School children for their hard work and educational achievements.

Three, seventh grade Marshall Simonds students, Nolan Martin, Matthew Shannon, and Emerson Waisnor and one sixth grade student Julia Shvartsman, spent five days, Sunday, June 9, through Thursday, June 13, in the nation’s capital during the 45th annual event.
